Bird + Nerd: The Story Behind Ryder's First Eyewear Collection
If you've followed our family for a while, you know that Ryder has always loved getting dressed. Ever since she was little, she'd spend hours putting together outfits, sketching ideas, and dreaming up colorful accessories. Fashion has always been one of the ways she expresses herself.
So when polette asked us if we'd like to design a Mommy & Me eyewear collection together, I didn't want it to be just my collection, I wanted it to be hers.
Every pair started with Ryder's imagination.
She sketched ideas, picked colors, talked about shapes she loved, and even insisted that the kids' frames needed little cat ears because, well... "they're more fun."
Watching her ideas come to life was one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had as a mom.
What I love most about Bird+Nerd isn't just that it's a matching Mommy & Me collection. It's that every time we wear these glasses together, I'm reminded that some of my favorite memories are the little everyday moments we share, getting dressed together, laughing in front of the mirror, picking out accessories, and letting Ryder tell me which outfit I should wear.
Those are the moments that inspired this collection.
As many of you know, the past couple of years have been incredibly challenging for our family. Through everything, fashion and creativity never stopped being part of Ryder's world. She still wanted to create. She still wanted to draw. She still wanted to style outfits and dream about new ideas. Seeing her imagination continue to shine is something I'll always be grateful for.
This collection is a celebration of that spirit.
I also have to give a huge thank you to the incredible team at polette. They took Ryder's little sketches and transformed them into real glasses that families can actually wear. They stayed true to her ideas while making sure every pair was comfortable, durable, and made to last.
Bird + Nerd is available in both optical and sunglasses, with matching styles for moms and kids.
